Red Hat Enterprise Linux Chosen for Electronic Design Automation; Red Hat Enterprise Linux Endorsed by LSI Logic and Leading EDA Software Suppliers

RALEIGH, N.C.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—Feb. 17, 2004— Red Hat (Nasdaq: RHAT) the world's leading provider of Open Source Solutions to the Enterprise today announced that Red Hat Enterprise Linux has been selected as the recommended Linux platform for the x86, Itanium 2, and Opteron hardware architectures specified in the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) Operating System Industry Roadmap published by the EDA Consortium. Leading EDA software companies such as Cadence Design Systems, Inc., Mentor Graphics and Synopsys, Inc. have also demonstrated their support for Red Hat by releasing products running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Red Hat, an Associate Member of the EDA Consortium, released Red Hat Enterprise Linux v. 3 with a common code base on seven hardware architectures including x86, Itanium 2, and Opteron in October 2003. Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS is the enterprise-class client intended for workstation use in historically Unix-heavy markets, such as EDA. "LSI Logic is excited about the potential benefits of Red Hat Enterprise Linux in that we will have a lower cost, stable computing platform on which to run our EDA tools," said Roland Smith, LSI Logic director of IT Global Operations. "LSI Logic is committed to rapidly delivering engineering designs to our customers that are 'right the first time'. A computing platform that remains stable for an extended period, including support for new computing hardware, is very important to us. We appreciate Red Hat's work in this area and their support of EDA vendors developing and porting tools that specifically address our requirements."

Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides our customers with one of the most stable competitive price-performance compute options available for design today," said Mark Toth,Director of Central Operations,Cadence Design Systems, Inc. "The new generation of design platforms from Cadence, combined with Enterprise Linux 3 from Red Hat, are aimed at speeding customers' time-to-market and lower their overall costs."

"Red Hat's Enterprise Linux v.3 delivers the stable longevity a platform must have for our customers' EDA tool development and design projects," said Rich Monahan, director, IT Engineering Services, Mentor Graphics. "Red Hat's enterprise strategy enables Mentor Graphics to deliver the quality and performance on Linux that our customers expect, with the assurance of on-going support from Red Hat."

"As a leader in providing advanced tools for modern chip design, Synopsys is responsive to our customers' needs in the area of compute platforms. Through our contributions to the EDA Industry Operating System Roadmap, we help customers decrease costs and complexity of EDA tool ownership," said Rich Goldman, vice president of Strategic Market Development at Synopsys. "Synopsys was the first EDA company to offer a full line of tools on Linux, and we firmly support Red Hat Enterprise Linux as the recommended Linux OS in the EDA Industry OS Roadmap."
